Shoei has officially launched the GT-Air 3 Smart, the world’s first motorcycle helmet with fully integrated augmented reality, designed to keep your eyes on the road while delivering all the necessary information right in your line of sight.

A New Era of Smart Helmets
Smart helmet technology has been evolving quickly, with brands working on blind-spot systems, improved airflow, and built-in communications. But Shoei pushes the boundary further. Through a collaboration with French tech company EyeLights, best known for its futuristic Rocket One concept, the GT-Air 3 Smart brings true AR capability directly into the visor.
EyeLights equipped the helmet with its third-generation head-up display system, fully integrated into the visor rather than attached as an external accessory. This HUD projects your riding data right into your field of vision, displaying speed, navigation, calls, and radar alerts.

The projection appears as if it’s three meters in front of you, making it easier to process information and helping reduce reaction times by more than 32 percent, according to EyeLights. To address the common issue of sunlight washout, Shoei uses a nano-OLED display that remains bright and clear even under direct sunlight, delivering Full HD visibility.
Beyond the AR display, the GT-Air 3 Smart also incorporates a universal intercom system with what EyeLights describes as “unlimited” range through online and offline mesh modes. It works with all major brands and includes speakers, a microphone with active noise cancellation, and support for both Siri and Google Assistant. All components, including the battery, projector, mic, speakers, and wiring, are seamlessly integrated inside the shell and deliver over ten hours of battery life.

Despite the added tech, Shoei maintains its reputation for safety and comfort. The GT-Air 3 Smart meets both DOT and ECE 22.06 standards thanks to its AIM (Advanced Integrated Matrix) multi-layer composite shell. The standard GT-Air 3 weighs about 1.77 kg (3.9 lb), and although the Smart version will be slightly heavier, Shoei has not revealed the exact weight. The helmet also includes a QSV-2 drop-down sun visor, a Pinlock-ready CNS-1C outer shield, and Shoei’s Defogger ventilation system with multiple intake and exhaust vents for optimal airflow.
