Yamaha has officially unveiled the much-awaited 2025 YZF-R9, marking the brand’s bold return to the supersport scene after the R6’s discontinuation.

Carrying Yamaha’s deep racing DNA, the R9 blends cutting-edge technology from both existing road-going vehicles and its MotoGP program. Its design screams performance, complete with aerodynamic bodywork, functional winglets, and aggressive lines reminiscent of Yamaha’s racing pedigree.
Underneath the fairings sits an 890cc liquid-cooled inline three-cylinder CP3 engine, similar to the MT-09 SP’s powerplant, which delivers around 117hp at 10,000rpm and 93Nm of torque at 7,000rpm. However, the R9 reportedly gets a unique ECU tune and optimized gearing for sharper track and road performance.

Weighing only 195kg and boasting an almost perfect 50:50 weight distribution, the R9 promises agile handling and superb balance. Suspension duties are handled by a fully adjustable KYB front fork and a new rear shock featuring an industry-first low-speed valve. Stopping power is ensured by Brembo Stylema calipers.
Modern electronics complete the package: a 5-inch full-color TFT display with smartphone connectivity, ABS with lean-sensitive control, and nine-level traction control.

Available colors include Team Yamaha Blue, Matt Black, and Intensity White/Redline.
With its race-inspired engineering and everyday usability, the 2025 YZF-R9 could be Yamaha’s next supersport icon. The question now is, will we see it soon on Philippine roads?
