The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is moving full throttle to distribute vehicle plates faster, just weeks after finally solving its 11-year license plate backlog.

LTO Chief Asec. Vigor Mendoza II announced that the agency has hired at least 20 new staff members to accelerate the process. These recruits were “strictly screened” for computer literacy and quick verification skills, ensuring they can immediately contribute to a faster and more efficient plate release system.
Based on LTO’s work output analysis, the added manpower could increase daily plate releases by 13,000 to 15,000. Currently, 52 staff handle 8,000 to 10,000 outbound plates from the Plate Making Plant and Courier Hub each day.
“We already accomplished the gargantuan task of ending the 11-year license backlog involving millions of motorcycle plates. Our focus now is to distribute all of these in the soonest possible time in compliance with the instruction of the President,” Asec Mendoza said.
Reaffirming the LTO’s commitment, he added: “Gaya ng ipinangako namin sa mga motorista at sa ating mga kababayan, gagawin namin ang lahat para maayos ang problemang ito. Tapos na ang backlog sa plaka, and we are exhausting all efforts to distribute all of them to the rightful owners in the soonest possible time.”
The government officially declared the backlog resolved last July after ramping up plate production.
The agency has also rolled out Plate Distribution Caravans to make the process more accessible. The NCR office held one at Robinsons Galleria on August 13, followed by another at SM Mall of Asia in Pasay on August 14. Across the country, regional and district offices are organizing similar events in partnership with local groups and stakeholders.
“Patuloy nating pinapaganda ang sistema at patuloy din ang agresibo nating koordinasyon mula sa mga TODA (Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association) hanggang sa mga LGU (local government units) upang mapabilis ang distribution process,” Asec Mendoza added.
With the backlog cleared and extra hands on deck, we are hoping that the plates will finally reach their rightful owners, no more years of waiting!
