KTM Resumes Motorcycle Production in Austria After Major Setbacks

Updated: Aug 4

After facing a turbulent period, KTM is officially restarting motorcycle production at its Mattighofen facility in Austria.

The company, which hit a record high of 375,612 units sold in 2022, struggled significantly in 2023, halting operations and nearing financial collapse. However, KTM's temporary rebound earlier in 2025 was cut short in April due to parts shortages, forcing another production pause.

Now, under the leadership of India’s Bajaj, which acquired a controlling stake in May 2025, KTM is back on track. Production has resumed on a full-time, five-day work week, beginning with its off-road lineup. The company is also assembling models from its LC4 platform, including the KTM 690 ENDURO R and KTM 690 SMC R.

“This restart is only possible because of the dedication, flexibility, and team spirit of our employees,” said KTM CEO Gottfried Neumeister.

No New KTM Distributor Yet in the Philippines

In the Philippines, KTM’s future remains uncertain. Lucky MAPI, the current official distributor, announced on July 18 that its contract will not be renewed and will end on September 30, 2025.

With Bajaj now steering KTM’s global strategy, decisions regarding Philippine operations are on hold. As of now, neither KTM nor Bajaj has named a new distributor here in the Philippines.
